SWISSTRIP 2009 - We recently took the kids for a 10-day camingcar-adventure with the (damn that fog!) mountains and lakes of Switzerland and France as highlight. We even spent the last couple of days in porbably the most beautiful green spot of Belgium: Bohan at the Semois river. A well deserved and refreshing vacation with some fun shooting moments.

FUNKTION-ONE DEMO 2009 - Yesterday i was invited at a demo of top-notch soundgear. Not realy intended for home experience, but rather for (big) gigs and parties of all kinds. We listened to all sorts of music and on different setups. Must say that their diner table sized bass-speakers are not only mindblowing from soundquality perspective, but in total also bodyblowing below 45hz.

EFTELING 2008 - On my latest birthday we decided to go to the Efteling in Holland, a fairytale-based themepark where i had never been before. Together with a couple of friends and 5 kids in total we had a very cold but extremely nice day. I’m definetely going back there in a couple of years! But prefferably in the summer…

VOLVOTRIP 1 - Since some time I knew i wasn’t the only photo-amateur at work, and as a non-shooting photo-enthousiast organized a trip, the first Volvo Photo-trip was born. Locations were Atlantik Wall ruins in Lefferinckoecke near Dunekercke, nord of France and an almost demolished holiday-resort in Nieuwpoort, Belgium. Realy had a great time!

BUNKERS NORMANDY - In the late spring of 2007 we drove down the coastline of North-France in a camper with the kids. We came across quite some locations where you could see the remains of the Atlantic Wall. Frankly, some spots, and their stories turned me very quiet, knowing what had happened to all those lads. Luckely for us we had no dictator to deal with.

CASTLE MESEN - A french-speaking catholic school used to be housed here untill they decided not to follow the new laws that said Dutch language had to be teached instead of French, but rather just be stubborn and close down. That was back in the late sixties if i’m well informed. Superb location in the center of a small place in Belgium.

TREILLARME GENT - At only a couple of hundred meters away from where i lived in Gent, there was this factory where they used to make metal bars for concrete armouring. Abanodoned for years and squated by a dozen of people, it is still waiting to be demolished and sanitized before giving it a new purpose. Great spot for shooting due to ceiling windows.

HOSPITAL JUMET - This hospital has a peculiar thing as some of my family used to be patient there way back in my childhood. They took it down 2 years ago and i had to be quick to get a glimps of it before it went down. As you can see, I should ‘ve been there earlier. Nevertheless, it gave me a good feeling that i managed to document this.

CASTLE NOISY - This gigantic fairytale-like castle stands in the middle of a huge private territory on a hillside in the Belgian Ardennes. Desolated since 1991 and surrounded with strange stories and gossips, at still has a feeling of its grandeur. At the same time it’s also quite a dangerous spot to hang out as it’s at the stage of becoming a ruin.

CHAPEL KEIZERSPOORT - An beautiful covent and church nearby the center of Gent was totaly refurnished into a complex that will probably serve for social housing. It was almost next to my door and the pictures were shot just after the demolishing part and before reconstruction began. Should be a nice spot to live i reckon.

VAN ALSBERGHE - VAN OOST - This series was taken at an old factory in Gent which has been abandoned for quite some years. Although I went back to shoot some more, I couldn’t come up with any better, due to bad light an illegal squaters who were giving me the creeps while they kept surrounding me with some greedy looks towards my equipment.

CONGO - A set of scanned pictures from my father’s side of the family, more specific the period they spent in Congo, back in the fifties. I know some scenes can be considered questionable, but please know that we’re talking about 60 years ago. The 5-year old boy in the pictures is my dad, who came back once the age of six to attend primary school in Belgium. Luckely the whole family returned just in time before the repressive revolution in 1960 when all Europeans had to run for their lives.

FROM THE FAMILY VAULT - This collection contains shots from the fifties up till the mid eighties and is mostly from my mother’s side. Also here, most of the pictures were scanned from print, others were scanned from negatives. Quite some locations were recreational holiday places, mostly in the south of Belgium, the Ardennes. A very nice natural and green place which i still cherish a lot.

Ik zat in de oude familie-doos te zoeken naar foto’s van onze Flawijn during the (early) eighties, maar heb er geen gevonden… misschien iets te embarrasing?..
